Sega wanted this as a launch game for the Saturn and as a result, it had to be rushed out of the door and that is the reason for all of the pop-in. Some may think that Daytona USA was a game that was too complicated to port to the Sega Saturn. However, it is not, the actual road in front of you will pop-in as well. You are driving on a bridge and the bridge is being constructed as you are on it! If it was just the scenery that was popping in as you drove, I could maybe deal with that. I have to say that the Sega Saturn port of Daytona has the worst pop-in I have come across in any video game! I legit cannot do justice just how bad the pop-in this game has is. Still, being able to play Daytona USA in our homes at the time was a huge deal. This was an arcade port so that is the reason why the content is rather shallow. You can play against a friend or do a time trial as well. You can race on their tracks, but there are mirror tracks as well. You get to pick from a handful of stock cars and you need to try and win the races. Daytona USA also features the ability to go online over the Internet and race other Daytona fans.Let’s start with the point of the game. Players can choose a different number of laps as well as the number of opponent cars they will face over the course of the race. The races themselves are customizable, as well, especially outside of the Championship mode.
Six additional cars can be unlocked as you progress through the game, bringing the total to ten vehicles. Of course, you can also choose between standard and automatic transmission. Players will also be able to alter aspects of each car, including the tires and the engine to give it a different grip and power. There are four cars to choose from in the beginning, each with its own distinct attributes. While veteran players will notice that the physics model of the game has been altered, relying less on power-slides for a more realistic experience, Daytona USA features all three original tracks of the arcade, three tracks previously seen in the Saturn version, and three all-new tracks exclusive to the Dreamcast.
Now, the game has finally been updated, enhanced, and released onto Sega's newest much-maligned console, the Dreamcast, bringing the original Daytona into the new millennium.ĭaytona USA for the Dreamcast is based on Sega's original 1994 arcade game as well as 1996 update for the 32-bit Saturn. The initial success of that title has prompted Sega to release several updates, including an arcade sequel and a home conversion on it's much-maligned Saturn console. Originally released in the arcades in 1994,Sega's Daytona USA makes its debut on the Dreamcast with some enhancements.
